HERON Paradise introduces study enrollment and trauma registry data

New data types in the HERON Paradise release include registry and study enrollment data.

  • Study enrollment information: Want to find out how many people in your patient set are already enrolled in a study at KUMC? Go to the Research Enrollment folder. You can search by status for patients actively enrolled, pre-enrolled and more. Additionally, you can search the status in a specific trial.
  • Trauma registry: Search for patients seen at the KU trauma department. This is the first phase for incorporating this registry into HERON, and future work will include incorporating the outstanding trauma registry fields.

This release includes enhancements to the tumor registry and diagnosis fields.

  • Labels added for site specific factors: Prior to this release, searching the CS Site Specific Factors within the tumor registry required an understanding of the SEER coding structure. This release replaces the numeric codes with text labels making it easier to search items such as ER positive breast cancer patients.
  • Medical History: Previously HERON included any diagnosis added to the medical history field. In this release, the medical history diagnosis is limited to only the most recent recording of medical history.

Save time submitting your next identified data request by searching for team members by your approved IRB number. Searching by IRB number as opposed to a team member name will avoid a request denial due to unauthorized team members listed on the data request.

Feedback on new data sources or enhancements are always welcome.

Need help with HERON? Join the Frontiers Lunch and Learn which meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 12:00 - 1:30 PM in room 3001D Student Center. Register in advance if possible but drop-ins are welcome.

Any publication that results from a project utilizing HERON should cite grant support (CTSA Award # UL1TR000001).

Beta Disclaimer

We are providing this early access to obtain feedback from you, the research community. While we are actively working on validating the data loaded into the system with hospital and clinic technical staff, there may be problems with our translation of data from our source systems (HospitalEpicSource and ClinicIdxSource) into HERON.

Please email us at heron-admin@kumc.edu if you discover information you believe may be erroneous.

We are actively working on enhancing the types of data included. Stay tuned to our roadmap to track progress toward upcoming releases.
